Senior Payroll Officer

Are you an experienced payroll professional and change agent looking for a role with a difference? This is a hands-on role for someone who loves the fast-paced rhythm of retail, thrives in a multi-site environment, and brings a strong understanding of award interpretation and compliance.Reporting directly to the Payroll Manager the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the management of the end-to-end payroll process as well as leading initiatives to improve the organisation's system capabilities, processes & service delivery that to reflect best practice principles & strategy. We are seeking someone who is highly collaborative, works with integrity and is a proven performer with a passion and drive to get the job done. Past experience in payroll processing, roster management and continuous improvement, as well as financial acumen is essential. In addition, system customisation experience and exposure to Dayforce payroll is an advantage. This isn't just about processing pay runs, it's about owning the payroll function end to end, providing trusted advice on legislation and policy, and working closely with leaders and employees to deliver a smooth, compliant, and reliable service. The Role

1.      Payroll Processing and Management

  • Handling payroll related queries from Retali Stores and Support Office
  • Running accurate and timely ad-hoc payroll reports

 

2.    Business Process and Continuous Improvement

 

  • Review and update payroll business processes regularly

  • Continuously improve payroll processes and workflows to support our Dayforce integration and customisation journey

3.    Payroll Compliance and Auditing

  • Interpret award conditions and support internal audits and payroll queries
  • Develop annual compliance calendar
  • Undertake periodic payroll audits 
  • Plan and complete annualised salary award audit
  • Calculate annual leave and sick leave provision
  • Assist with payroll reporting, including year-end

 

You

  • Minimum 5 years' experience processing payroll from end to end with in-depth knowledge
  • A solid understanding of the General Retail Industry Award
  • In depth understanding of payroll legislation, including awards, payroll tax, superannuation, PAYG and workers compensation, with the ability to interpret and apply this knowledge in practice.
  • Advanced skills in the Microsoft Office suite, with a particular focus on Excel for reporting, analysis and reconciliations.
